Introduction to the music video course

My name is Marc Crown and I will be continuing to study media in A2 as I believe media can provide me with vital skills in order to equip me for the future. I enjoy watching music videos as I see them as playing an important role in order to illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics to the song. By creating a music video, the audience can match the audio codes to the visual codes. There can be a relationship between music and visuals or lyrics and visuals. During the research and planning, as a group we need to consider whether the music video will be performance based, narrative based or concept based, or a combination of two. We also need to consider how the editing fits in to the music, for example cutting at the point of a beat. The aim of the music video is to provide a variety of different camera shots, editing techniques and applying digital effects. For example, record labels demand for close-ups on the artist and the artists may develop motifs which recur across their work.
