Feedback on music video idea

A lot of the people we presented '100 sleepless Nights' to thought that the song had a good beat and was a good song to as we would be able to cut in time to the beat easily enough. They also thought that the actors used all fit in with the song and the genre-which was a huge positive. Furthermore, the presentation helped us as the class suggested that Gail would cheat on John with Bennie (the lead singer), and as a result, he has used music to help him through it, by writing this song '100 sleepless nights', where the name of the song also fits in to the narrative.
Overall we gained really positive feedback from our classmates who believed the idea was achievable as well as realistic.

This prezi presents our ideas that we want to do in the music video and also introducing actors and who we are going to use for filming the performance based side of the music video

100 Sleepless Nights- Basic storyline and Locations

I will be in a group with Ethan Wall and Amy Phillips and we have chosen the song 100 Sleepless Nights by Pierce The Veil. As we compared ideas, we decided that Amy was most clear about a storyline and genre and therefore we believed the idea and joined groups. The genre is Punk Rock and the band are from San Diego. The music video will contain both performance and narrative visuals where the lead singer of the band's girlfriend has cheated on him, and as a result, he has written this song '100 Sleepless Nights'.  We have looked into a number of locations of where we can shoot the performance part of the music video. As a group, we all agreed that a deserted warehouse would fit in with the band and the lyrics. We have looked at Upper Beeding Cement in Sussex, and contacted the council too ask for permission to film there. If we cannot get permission, we have also planned other alternatives such as other warehouses and different studios or halls that we can change the look of to make it more suitable for the performance. We also need to cross cut to the narrative scene where the lead singer reacts to the news his girlfriend has cheated on him. We plan to shoot him breaking objects and ripping pictures of them together. We could film this in a house or the park.

Powderfinger edit

In our second editing lesson for practising making the digipack, we have tried to recreate the vulture street album cover. The final recreation is below:

The first editing technique I used was the posterize tool, this helps recreate the pop art look which is used in the original. 

I then had to remove the red and yellow that was created from the posterize tool. We had to select the tool 'replace colour' and change the yellow to white, and the red to black. The photo then becomes black and white- just like the original. Next, we had to create the blue tears from her eyes, after dragging the original red paint, we had to colour balance the red and change it to blue while also removing the white parts in-between the gaps. We removed he white gaps by using the magi tool and had to drag the colour balance to remove the red and add cyan. 

I then added the font, and changed it to a light blue colour, dragged the blue crying to below the eye, while also starting to add the purple dots. 

I then started to make the spots transparent so you could still see part of the background image.

Lady Gaga - Telephone

The audience can instantly see that the setting is in a prison due to the close ups on the barbed wires and the effect of having the camera behind the fences.  The font is funky, bold, colourful and bright, which contrasts with the visuals of a prison. Gaga is dressed up in a black and white stripes, which fits in with the setting of the prison. Scopophilia is created through the shot of the surveillance cameras. Gaga and the two officers are revealing in their clothes and look, but look intimidating at the same time. An example of voyeurism is created as there is a pan shot of the women in revealing clothes looking directly to the camera in their trapped cells. The officers strip Gaga from her clothes which makes her look like the other prisoners. Product placement is presented through the Virgin active phone and later on, the dating website. We can then hear the ambient sounds of the helicopter. A fight scene is taking place, showing close ups of the characters reactions. a cross cut is made from Gaga to the fight in order to have her point of view of the situation. The telephone rings and Lady Gaga starts singing "Hello, baby, baby I cant hear a thing", which we see from the fight in the background. A parallel cut is made to girls dancing and Gaga lip syncing to the song. They are also wearing revealing clothes which further emphasises voyeurism. We then see a cut to the beat with quick edit cuts and rhythmic editing which shows the music is in time to the visuals. Beyonce pulls up in  a car which is an inter textual reference from Kill Bill in the driving scene as the bride in the film has the same car.

As Beyonce sings further cuts are made in time to the beat. There are also animations used in the next scene in the Diner when there is a close up of the man "smacking" the woman's bum, which is another form of voyeurism There are also a series of jump cuts. A close up is made to the significant prop of the toxic liquid. There are a number of transitions being made when cutting to each scene from fade in's, dissolves and wipes. Furthermore, the lyrics also related to the visuals as every time the phone rung she already had it in her hands. There is continuity editing as we see everything coming to an end and there is a beginning, middle and end narrative.

For our music video, we must ensure that the correct song choice, and the way we portray the video, is distinctive enough so that the audience are able to tell if the artist is synthetic or organic.
